PHOTO STORIES: Greensberg - One Year After the Tornado

On May 4, 2007, Greensburg--a small town in southwestern Kansas--was struck by a massive tornado that destroyed 95% of the town. Since the tornado, Greensburg is rebuilding as a Green town. The City Council resolved that all city building would be built to LEED--platinum standards, with funding from not-for-profit organizations, and with philanthropic support from movie star Leonardo DiCaprio. The town has attracted the media; it the subject of a documentary, and the rebuilding is currently being filmed for a reality television series. One year on and the people of Greensburg continue to rebuild. Even though they are far away from whatever they may yet be and farther still from what they once were, they are still a community, a reduced and fragmented one, but they are still a community.
